Arms and the Man

The concept for this production of G.B. Shaws most popular revival centered on the desire to emphasize the anti-romantic nature of the play, as well as the culture clash between west and east.  We worked with a postmodern unit set combining architectural elements of west and east. This set was completely covered by an extended oil painting, the central detail of which can be seen behind the women at the bed.  The effect was as though a huge painting had been cut and folded in a 3-D architectural shape. The central, romantic image of the gallant cavalry officer literally shattered and broke apart over the course of the production.
