GILGAMESH

The World Premiere of Jonathan Bayliss� dramatization of the conflicts of politics,love, regligion and science in ancient Sumeria.  The concept called for a unit set which was a cross between a Babylonian ziggurat and a rock concert scaffold stage.  The two giant doors surmounted by a carved foam lion/sage was surrounded on two levels by warring Sumerian Gods who fought out their perpetual battles using mortals to represent them.  The production was a real feast for the senses with saturated colors in the light, extensive use of computerized music, masks and dance.  In the photo below, Enkidu the wild man is transported into the city in a wheeled cage, while the gods watch from their positions and Enkidu�s lion spirit rides the cage roof.
