Insignificance: a really lovely play by Terry Johnson which imagines a night in a New York hotel in the 1950s with Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio and Senator Joe McCarthy. Alternately comic and sadly touching, we gave this play an intimate production in our black box theatre. The backdrop was painted from a Hubble Space Telescope shot, using flourescent paints, and lit with high-power UV lighting. When the regular lighting was on, the UV was washed out, but when the regular lighting was lowered, the effect was stunning. Lighting, set and costume for this production were all student designed. |
